Explore adds Ghana, Southwest China and Burma Hilltribes to new Walking and Trekking portfolio
Adventure travel specialist, Explore, has launched its new 2013/14 Walking and Trekking brochure. With new, pioneering trekking destinations on offer including Burma, Georgia, southwest China and Ghana, the new collection offers customers the opportunity to visit the remote corners of the earth, which are only rarely, if ever, frequented by tourists. With a total of 14 new treks on offer, the new brochure offers exciting new tours for all walking abilities. Customers booking one of the new treks will benefit from a 5% discount, when booking before 19th November, 2012.*
For those looking for a truly unique experience, Explore’s new Ghana and Togo on Foot tour is not offered by any other major adventure travel company in the UK. The 15-day tour offers a good balance between walking and cultural experiences and spends time visiting local villages and markets, before watching a traditional fire dance in Togo. In Ghana, customers will explore the pristine rainforest and walk on the longest and highest canopy bridge in the world; hike to the top of waterfalls and meet welcoming locals from the nearby villages. Departing in August, October, November and December 2013, the tour, which is graded easy to moderate, costs from £2,375 per person to include flights, B&B accommodation, 14 other meals, transport and the services of a tour leader, cook and local rangers.
Another one-of-a-kind offering is Explore’s new On Foot in the Caucasus tour. This 16-day walking tour in Georgia explores two of the country’s most remote trekking regions: Kazbegi and Svaneti. Trekking through deep valleys, past villages and to dramatic glaciers, customers will get the chance to trek along the Truso Gorge to the carbonated lake; visit Uplistsikhre Cave town and trek to the base of Georgia’s highest mountain, Mount Shkhara (5,068m). There is also time to visit the city of Tbilisi and the opportunity to explore the many caves of the Tskaltubo grotto. Departing in June 2013, the tour, which is graded moderate, costs from £1,985 per person and includes flights, B&B accommodation, most other meals, transport and the services of a tour leader, driver and local guides.
Closer to home but still with a unique twist is Explore’s new 10-day Wine, Walks and Tapas tour in Spain. Ideal for those who are looking for a gentler holiday pace, this relaxing tour has a special focus on local cuisine and journeys from Bilbao to Barcelona, while sampling local wines and tapas. Customers will journey through the quality wine regions of La Rioja, Montsant, Priorat and Cava and can enjoy gentle walks through vineyards, along the coast and on top of Monserrat ridge. In addition to visiting wine museums and estates, the tour offers the chance to walk a scenic section of the Camino de Santiago. Costing from £1,196 per person, the easy graded tour includes flights, B&B accommodation, two other meals, transport and the services of a tour leader, driver and local guide. Five departures are planned from May to October 2013.
For those looking for something more challenging and to get completely off-the-beaten-track, Explore’s new 18-day Yunnan’s Tribal Trails tour explores the remote corner of China’s extreme southwest – a land of minority tribes and spectacular mountain scenery. After passing through Tiger Leaping Gorge, customers are unlikely to come across any other tourists during this demanding but rewarding trek. After journeying along the Yangtse River, through hand-cut granite tunnels and past tiers of rice terraces, customers will have the unique opportunity to spend three nights with local families from remote tribal villages. Departing in September 2013, the tour, which is graded challenging, costs from £2,498 per person and includes flights, B&B accommodation, 16 other meals, transport and the services of a tour leader, driver and local guides.
Also journeying off-the-beaten-track is Explore’s new Burma Hilltribe Trek. This 16-day trek explores the remote hilltribes of the Shan state and offers customers the unique opportunity to spend a night in a local Buddhist monastery. Throughout the trek customers will meet various hilltribes who follow traditional customs and lifestyles. There is also an opportunity to join Buddhist pilgrims on a trek to Burma’s most important pilgrimage site: the sacred Golden Rock. Combining Burma’s famous highlights, the tour visits Inle Lake, Bagan and Rangoon. Departing between October and December 2013, the tour, which is graded moderate, costs from £3,393 per person to include flights, B&B accommodation, six other meals, transport and the services of a tour leader, driver and some local guides.
Ashley Toft, Managing Director for Explore, commented “This year’s walking and trekking collection contains some of the planet’s most inspiring destinations - places that very few people know about and, even less, visit. He continued “What’s more, this year’s collection offers fantastic value for money. Not only can customers benefit from our 5% launch offer*, but we have worked closely with all our suppliers to ensure that we can make fantastic price savings, without having to compromise on quality.”
