Explore introduces 19 new Walking and Trekking holidays for 2014
Adventure travel specialist, Explore, has today added 19 new walking and trekking tours to its 2014/15 portfolio. With pioneering new trekking destinations on offer including Colombia’s ‘Lost City’ and Nepal’s Langtang National Park, the new collection offers customers the opportunity to visit the remote corners of the earth, which are only rarely, if ever, frequented by tourists. As an added incentive to book, all new tours are discounted by 5% between now and 18th November 2013*.
For those looking to get well off the beaten track, Explore’s new moderate to challenging graded Trek to the Lost City takes adventurous walkers on a nine day journey through Colombia’s crystal clear rivers, jungle and valleys to the ‘lost city’ - reportedly 600 years older than Peru’s Machu Picchu. Only recently reopened to tourists, this remote destination is only accessible by foot and disappeared off all maps until it was rediscovered in 1975. The isolation and overgrown state of this region provides a genuine air of mystery. The tour also explores the historical capital of Bogota, the Gold Museum, and takes a walking tour of Cartagena. This nine day tour departs in April, August, October and November 2014, and costs from £2,299 per person including flights, hotel and camping accommodation, most meals, transport and the services of a tour leader and driver.
For those keen to discover Nepal, Explore’s new Langtang and Gosainkunda Trek is a stunning option. Quieter and less populated than the Everest and Annapurna regions, Langtang and Gosainkunda offers spectacular mountain views – including Langtang Lirung (7,225m), Langtang Ri (7,205m) and Dagpache (6,575m). Customers will learn about Hindu legends at the Gosainkunda Lakes, enjoy glacier and alpine scenery and spend their nights in local teahouses. Allowing plenty of time to acclimatise, this 18 day moderate to challenging graded tour departs in November 2014 and costs from £2,134 per person including flights, hotel and teahouse accommodation, most meals, transport and the services of a tour leader and driver.
Combining walking with fine food, Explore’s new On Foot in Puglia and Basilicata tour spends four nights in the charming seaside town of Vieste, and enjoys walks amongst the ancient forests of the Gargano Peninsula before heading inland, to the medieval town of Matera. The tour spends a day exploring the famous Trulli of historic Alberobelleo and Locorotondo and throughout the journey, samples local specialities including cheese, wine and olive oil. The tour also includes a dinner where local produce and regional dishes can be enjoyed. Graded easy to moderate, this eight day walking holiday departs in May, June, September, October and November 2014 and costs from £955 per person, to include flights, B&B hotel accommodation, one other meal, transport and the services of a tour leader and driver.
Offering a unique winter break, Explore’s new Tuscan Winter Walks and Snowshoeing tour is ideal for active types looking for an alternative to skiing. Based on a working farm in the Garfagnana valley, customers can discover the stunning area between the ‘marble mountains’ of the Alpi Apuane and the rolling Apennines by snowshoe. After days spent snow-shoeing, which is easy to pick up and suitable for first timers, customers can enjoy delicious home-cooked Tuscan cuisine cooked by their host family. Departing in February and March 2014, this eight day tour costs from £898 per person, to include flights, agriturismo accommodation, most meals, transport and the services of a tour leader and driver.
For less challenge and more indulgence, Explores new Walks and Wine Tasting tour is a 12 day walking holiday visiting both Spain and Portugal. Customers will explore medieval towns, wander through National Parks, stop to sample local wines, enjoy relaxing boat trips and catch local trains to nearby villages. Including five easy-graded walks of between one and a half and four hours each, this tour costs from £1,276 per person, to include flights, B&B hotel accommodation, transport and the services of a tour leader and driver. Tour departs on May, June, September and October 2014.
