Explore expands cycling collection following 25% increase in demand
With demand for cycling holidays up 25% since the start of the year, adventure travel specialist Explore is excited to today announce the launch of 12 new cycling tours for 2014/15. With new destinations on offer including Japan, Thailand, Bavaria and Jordan, as well as four new gastronomic cycle tours, Explore is offering a wider breath of choice for all cycle abilities. Explore includes the cost of bike hire in all of its tours and as an added incentive to book early, all new tours are discounted by 5% between now and 18th November 2013*.
For those looking to indulge, Explore‚Äôs new Gourmet Cycle to Bordeaux is an eight day easy graded tour cycling through the heart of Tarn-et-Garonne - the market garden of the Midi-Pyrenees, also known locally as the ‚Äėland of a thousand and one flavours‚Äô. The tour also includes two evening meals at Michelin listed restaurants, a gourmet picnic by the canal with food selected from the local markets and wine tasting at two local vineyards. Tours departs in April, June, September and October 2014, and cost from ¬£1,199 per person to include train travel from the UK, B&B accommodation, three other meals, bike hire, transport and the services of a tour leader and driver.
As a new cycling destination for Explore, Cycle Jordan offers the chance to discover the country’s highlights on a moderate graded nine day cycle tour. Customers will visit the Dead Sea, explore Petra and spend the night in the desert at the Wadi Rum Bedouin Camp. The tour also includes the chance to rest the bikes and enjoy snorkelling and swimming in the Red Sea. The tour departs in April, May, October, November and December 2014 and costs from £1,346 per person, to include flights, B&B accommodation, one other meal, bike hire, transport and the services of a tour leader, diver and local guides.
For superb Himalaya foothill scenery and a more testing ride, Explore’s new 15 day Mountain Biking in Nepal tour is graded moderate to challenging. Altitude is not an issue with a maximum height of only 1,500 metres. The ride journeys through the valleys and villages of the Himalayas; meets friendly Buddhist locals; learns about the cultural and historic importance of Lumbini, Gorkha and Bandipur; and discovers wildlife and nature in the UNESCO Chitwan National Park. Departing in November 2014, the tour costs from £2,148 per person and includes flights, teahouse, hotel and lodge accommodation, most meals, bike hire, transport and the services of a tour leader, driver and some local guides.
For something further afield and even more off the beaten track, Explore‚Äôs 15 day Kyoto and Beyond by Bike is a moderate graded cycle tour that takes in ‚Äėreal‚Äô Japan. Customers can enjoy scenic coastal cycling; journey through the highlands around Hakusan National Park; visit castles and canals of the Samurai town of Gujo Hachiman; revive their legs in local hot springs; and re-fuel with local Japanese cuisine. Departing in May and October 2014, the tour costs from ¬£3,990 per person and includes flights, hotel and farmstay accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis, some other meals, transport and the services of a tour leader, bike mechanic and cycle guide.
Ashley Toft, Managing Director of Explore, commented ‚ÄúCycling holidays have been steadily increasing in popularity over the last couple of years, and this year alone we have seen a 25% rise in bookings, with Europe, Cuba, Burma and Vietnam being amongst the most popular destinations to date. It‚Äôs for this reason that we are expanding our collection and offering something new for all abilities‚ÄĚ.
He continued, ‚ÄúExplore‚Äôs cycling tours offer great value for money. Unlike most other operators, we include the hire of high-quality bikes in the cost of all of our trips, meaning that customers don‚Äôt have to worry about taking their own bike abroad or paying extra to hire one locally‚ÄĚ.
