Adventure travel specialists, Explore, has seen a continued growth in demand for cycling tours with a 20% year on year* increase in bookings.
The popularity of cycling has been fuelled by recent British cycling successes from Mark Cavendish and Ian Stannard and the tour operator has seen more customers choosing to jump on a bicycle to discover inspiring destinations such as Burma, Vietnam and Cuba.
Explore’s Cycling Programme Manager, James Adkin commented on 2015’s hottest trend:
“We’ve noticed that our cycling tours attract a high percentage of Explore ‘first-timers’, with our most popular tours being easy and moderate graded. These are designed for those who enjoy anything from a gentle cycle on the flat, to daily rides in the region of 40 to 60 km with the occasional energetic ascent. The easy graded tours particularly appeal to those who want to stop and explore the destination as they go, not just spend their whole day in the saddle.”
He continued, “In particular, destinations such as Burma, Morocco and Cuba are all selling well as well as Western Europe; which can be attributed to the current strength of the pound against the euro.”
“With the upcoming Tour de France and London to Paris bike ride, it’s likely the general public are going to be inspired by cycling. We have been able to provide customers with a wider breadth of product since launching our new Self-Guided collection – allowing more flexibility and freedom while they travel.”
Explore has a huge selection of cycling tours to 42 different destinations around the world including 12 new Self-Guided trips in Western Europe. Explore is currently offering customers £50 off all cycling tours when they book before 31st March 2015**.
