Explore expands offering with launch of foodie tours

Adventure travel specialist, Explore, is expanding its product range with an exciting new collection of food and drink tours.

Following on from the success of the likes of Rick Stein’s India, the Hairy Bikers' Bakeation and Gordon’s Great Escape, Explore will be bringing the popular combination of food and travel to life across India, Turkey, Morocco, Thailand and Vietnam. In addition, Explore will be introducing a selection of walking and cycling tours with a special ‘foodie’ focus. As an added incentive to book early, all new tours are discounted by 5% between now and 18th November 2013*.

Representing good value for money, Explore’s new eight day A Taste of Turkey tour brings together an elective mix of traditional and modern cuisine. Providing an introduction to Turkish food culture, customers will visit a Turkish wine estate that grows its own grapes, one of the country’s oldest restaurants, local markets, tea shops and traditional mountain villages where they can watch food being prepared by hand. The tour includes ample opportunities to sample local dishes including dolma, baklava and Kofte, as well as cooking lessons. Departing in May, June, September and October 2014, the tour costs from £895 to include flights, hotel and village house accommodation, most meals, transport and the services of a tour leader and driver.

A truly unique offering, Explore’s new 14 day Taste of India tour combines Tibetan settlements, markets and plantations with interactive cooking demonstrations and cook-offs. Concentrating on Southern India, the tour visits Devaraj market where customers will be accompanied by Hema Nandi - a member of the Mysore royal family from whom they will learn traditional family recipes. Other highlights include learning to make momos (Tibetan dumplings) in a Tibetan settlement and visiting Attumukham Restaurant, as featured in Rick Stein’s India. Costing from £1,319 per person and departing in October, November and December 2014, the tour includes flights, hotels and an over-night train, transport and the services of a tour leader, driver and local guides.

Explore’s new Taste of Thailand and Vietnam Flavours tours delve under the surface of South-East Asia to explore secrets behind its culinary success.  Travelling along the coast and through historic towns, the new 14 day Vietnam tour, costing from £1,766 per person**, samples street food and savoury pancakes, takes lunch with local families, learns how to cook ancient royal cuisine and teaches the art of Vietnamese cooking. Meanwhile, the 13 day Thailand tour, costing from £1,791 per person***, includes Thai cooking classes and takes a street food safari in Bangkok, samples a traditional Khantoke dinner in Chiang Mai, and goes wine tasting in Hua Hin.

For food lovers counting the calories, Explore is introducing five new food-focussed walking and four new food-focussed cycling tours, enabling customers to burn off the calories as they go.

For walkers, Explore’s new 11 day Walks and Wine Tasting tour of central Spain and Portugal visits medieval towns, local villages and National Parks while stopping off along the way to sample local wines and fine food. Including five walks of between one and a half and four hours each, the easy graded tour costs from £1,276 per person and includes flights, B&B accommodation, transport and the services of a tour leader and driver. The tour departs in May, June, September and October 2014.

For cyclists, Explore’s new eight day Gourmet Cycle to Bordeaux travels through the heart of Tarn-et-Garonne - the market garden of the Midi-Pyrenees known locally as the ‘land of 1,001 flavours’. The tour includes two evening meals at Michelin listed restaurants, a gourmet picnic by the canal with food selected from the local markets, and wine tasting at two local vineyards. The easy graded tour, departing in April, June September and October, costs from £1,199 to include train transfers, seven nights’ B&B accommodation, two other meals, bike hire and the services of a tour leader and driver.

Ashley Toft, Managing Director of Explore, commented “We’re very excited to launch this new collection of food and drink tours. The range follows on from the success of our Wine, Walks and Tapas tour which we launched for the first time last year, and has been hugely popular”. He continued “With so many food focussed travel programmes on TV at the moment, demand for this type of tour has been high. You don’t have to have a great knowledge of food or fine wine, or even class yourself as a ‘foodie’ to travel on these new tours. Our food and drink tours are simply designed for people who love food and love travel, and want to learn a little along the way.”
