Explore launches eight new ‘Explore Beyond’ trips

Explore, the adventure travel specialists, has today launched eight brand new ‘Explore Beyond’ trips.

Explore Beyond trips offer truly unique experiences such as canoeing along the Burro Burro River in the depths of the Amazon in Guyana to visiting indigenous tribes and learning about their culture and traditions in Sulawesi.

Venturing into the heart of the Amazon is Explore’s new Backwaters of Guyana trip. This 12 day expedition includes boarding dug-out canoes to set off on a seven day journey along the Burro Burro River, spotting wildlife such as giant river otters and tapir. Supported by the local Amerindian community, learn jungle survival skills used by the Macushi people. There is also a chance to visit the impressive Kaieteur Falls – the world’s widest single drop waterfall. This trip departs on 12 September 2017 and costs from £3,995 per person. This price includes return flights, five nights’ hotel and six nights’ camping accommodation, all meals, transport and the services of an Explore Leader, driver and local guides.

Discover the three remote islands of The Comoros on Explore’s new 13 day trip. Explore Grand Comore, Moheli and Anjouan, known for their natural beauty. Enjoy coastal walks, explore the rainforest and snorkel on the pristine reefs of Park Marin de Moheli. Visit the medinas and Arab quarters of Mutsamudu and take a tour of Mount Karthala, one of the world’s most active volcanoes. This trip departs on the 23 April 2017 and costs from £2,999 per person. This price includes return flights, 11 nights’ accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis, transport and the services of an Explore Leader, driver and local guides.

Visit the haunting destination of Chernobyl on Explore’s new Chernobyl Photography Short Break, a five day trip which is accompanied by an expert guide to help capture the perfect photographs.  Spend two full days in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone staying overnight and discover the ghost town of Pripyat and Reactor Number 4. Take a guided tour of Kiev’s best known sights and explore the ornate monastery complex of Lavra, known for its expansive catacombs. Trips depart on 25 May and 27 July 2017 and costs from £835 per person. This price includes return flights, four nights’ accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis, two lunches, one dinner, transport and the services of an Explore Leader, expert photographer, driver and local guides.

Journey into the heart of the Indonesian archipelago on Explore’s new 14 day Discover Sulawesi trip. Known for its indigenous tribes and their fascinating traditions spend time in Rantepao to discover the eerie Tau Tau statues and learn about their mystifying customs with the dead, spot hornbills on the remote tropical Togian islands and explore the megalithic stones of Lore Lindu National Park in the Besoa Valley, only recently made accessible by road. Trips depart on 7 May 2017 and costs from £2,995 per person. This price includes return flights, 13 nights’ accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis, transport and the services of an Explore Leader, driver and local guides.

Travel to the most northern point in mainland Europe on Explore’s new Nordkapp Adventure. The 16 day trip ventures from St. Petersburg up through Russia and into Norway. Travel by boat across the White Sea to Solovetsky Island and visit the monastery which was a former prison camp; discover the iconic cities of Murmansk and Alta, where there’s time to walk to the Alta Dam. See the globe marking the end of the North Cape and hike 18km to the most Northern point in mainland Europe, Knivskjellodden. This trip departs on 10 June 2017 and costs from £2,799 per person. Also added to the Explore Beyond collection are three festival trips focussed in remote regions of China. The festivities are a fantastic way for visitors to immerse themselves in local life and gain an insight into traditional customs.

Celebrate two of the most important festivals to the Naxi and Miao people on Explore’s new 14 day Naxi and Miao Festivals of Southern China trip. The Eryueba festival of the Naxi people celebrates the gods of nature with dance and music and the Tiaohuapo Festival commemorates the migration of the Miao people with traditional dress and dancing. Travelling through rural China, the trip stops off to visit Baishuitai White Water Terraces with dramatic views of the Tiger Leaping Gorge. This trip departs on the 28 February 2017 and costs from £3,095 per person. This price includes return flights, eight nights’ hotel, three nights’ guesthouse and two nights’ homestay accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis, transport and the services of an Explore Leader, driver and local guides.

Join in with the local people on Explore’s new The Sanyuesan and Sisters Rice Festivals trip. Spend 17 days in southern China to celebrate the Sanyuesan Festival with fireworks, dancing and singing and the Sisters Rice Festival with girls from the Miao villages preparing coloured rice to offer potential suiters. Visit Liping Village, the historic site of the Long March of the Red Army and explore the sprawling Jiabang rice terraces. This trip departs on the 27 March 2017 and costs from £3,299 per person. This price includes return flights, 16 nights’ hotel accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis, transport and the services of an Explore Leader, driver and local guides.

Gain an insight into the lives of the local people and nomads of the Sichuan Province on the new Ancient Kham and the Lintang Nomadic FestivalSpend 16 days in the Sichuan Province and enjoy tea, sweets and yak meat at the Litang Nomadic Festival where the locals gather to pray for a good harvest. See how Tibetan culture is practiced in the remote monasteries and visit the monks and nuns at Sertar Buddhist Institute. Trips depart on 15 October 2017 and costs from £2,799 per person. This price includes return flights, 15 nights’ accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis, transport and the services of an Explore Leader, driver and local guides.
