Arguably the best way to travel around Japan is using its amazingly efficient rail network. With over 4800 train stations and more than 23000 kilometres of track you can cover the entire country by train.

Using the world famous Shinkansen, also known as the bullet train, it takes just 2 hours and 18 minutes to cover the 320 miles from Tokyo to Kyoto. Coupled with the fact that the trains are notoriously punctual, carriages are clean, spacious and comfortable and tickets are excellent value it is an excellent choice of transport for anyone wishing to explore Japan. For overseas visitors there is a chance to take advantage of the Japan Rail Pass, a 7, 14 or 21 day pass that allows tourists to travel across most of the rail network and explore this beautiful country.

Keep your eyes peeled for ‘Dr Yellow’, bright yellow bullet trains that depart daily from Tokyo testing the tracks and overhead wires to ensure a safe journey and eliminating any delays.
