HOW IMPARTIAL IS THE ADVICE GIVEN BY YOUR SPECIALISTS?

Explore Tailormade do not own any hotels or overseas ground suppliers. So the advice you’ll receive when designing an itinerary is 100% impartial. Any properties or services that we suggest are being recommended purely on merit.




AM I ON MY OWN WHEN I AM OVERSEAS?


In every country that we travel, Explore Tailormade has a network of local contacts and suppliers who will ensure that your holiday goes as smoothly as possible. Typically you will be met on arrival at the airport and transferred to the accommodation of your choice. A local representative will provide you with an initial briefing about your holiday and will confirm that you have all of the necessary contact numbers - 24/7 backup will be available both in the country of travel and here in the UK (we are never more than a phone call away, 24 hours a day and every day of the year). Depending on your style of trip, you will then either be accompanied by an Explore Tailormade guide and/or driver for all or part of your journey, or have all relevant support on a self-drive itinerary – the choice is yours, but we’ll be with you every step of the way. Travelling privately also offers flexibility during your holiday and so your driver or guide will discuss options with you each day to ensure you get the most out of your holiday.



 
HOW FAMILIAR ARE YOUR REGIONAL SPECIALISTS WITH THEIR AREAS?


We ensure that our specialists travel frequently to the countries they sell, so that they are able to tell you about all of the latest developments within a country, and their best up-to-date travel tips and hidden highlights.


WHAT STYLE OF ACCOMMODATION CAN I EXPECT?

We aim to take our customers beyond the normal tourist trail and know that, for many, the actual destination is more important than the accommodation itself. However, we also appreciate that many travellers prefer comfortable, stylish or luxurious accommodation.

Our regional specialists have all visited a wide range of accommodation options – from bush camping in the desert and authentic village houses, to some of the finest boutique hotels found anywhere. We do this so we can offer the widest possible variety of accommodation styles to suit every budget. When putting together an itinerary, we will ensure that we listen to your requirements for accommodation and mix and match until we’ve got the right accommodation at the right price just for you.


 
HOW DO I TRAVEL AROUND A COUNTRY?


In whichever way you want. We will always tell you which are the most appropriate form of transport for that area and within the time you have available, and also give you the chance to travel on forms of transport appropriate to the country you are travelling in.  Whether you choose to travel by road, rail, boat, aeroplane or even on foot, our aim is to ensure that you get the most from your travel experience. Getting there is part of the fun.


 
CAN I CHOOSE WHICH AIRPORT I DEPART FROM?


If there is a scheduled flight to your chosen destination departing from your preferred airport, then we will be able to book it for you at a competitive rate. Our rates include economy seats, upgrades to enhanced economy, business class and for those very special occasions, first class.





WHAT IS THE BOOKING PROCESS?


Once you have an idea of where you want to go, we would recommend that you have a look at some of the example itineraries on our destination pages for inspiration. Then contact us either using the quote form on this website or by calling 0844 875 1890. At this stage one of our regional specialists will discuss all of the options available to you and help you put together an itinerary that matches your requirements. We will then send you a detailed itinerary with a quote. You can come back to us as many times as you like after this to create your perfect itinerary – we’ll work on it together. Once we’ve got an itinerary you like, we’ll ask for a booking form and deposit, and the arrangement of your holiday begins.


 
WHAT DO EXPLORE TAILORMADE DO TO OFFSET CARBON EMISSIONS FOR FLIGHTS?

In 2008 we became the first major travel company to offset its carbon emissions; we do this for both staff and customer flights.
We carbon offset all our passenger's flights by including in the tour cost a sum to fund projects that help reduce global CO2 emissions. This important decision was by no means small – each year, we hand over a cheque for a six figure sum and have carefully chosen projects that our funding will help. We work with Climate Care as our designated carbon offset partner.

Over the past five years we have supported 14 different projects around the world. In 2012, after careful consideration, we chose to support the Shangyi Manjing Wind Farm in China and the Energy Efficiency Cooking Stove project in Cambodia.

Responsible travel is - and always has been - one of the driving principles of Explore. We care deeply about travelling in a way that positively impacts the people and places we visit.

As a company, we have implemented a comprehensive responsible tourism policy that encompasses all aspects of our operations, both here in the UK and overseas.

This means ensuring that:

• local people benefit economically from tourism, by employing them as guides, eating out in local restaurants and using locally owned hotels and ground agents wherever possible
• we learn about and respect the customs and culture of the country we are visiting so that we do not offend local people
• we support key local projects and charities, offering direct financial assistance so offering a sustainable and long term benefit
• we minimise our impact on the environment by travelling in small groups, offsetting our carbon emissions, reducing waste and supporting conservation projects
• people who work for Tailormade Explore are treated fairly and paid a fair wage

We have worked hard at maintaining these principles so that we continue to be welcomed in the places we all love to visit, meaning local people benefit and our groups enjoy a better trip.

In addition to our overseas initiatives, we also do as much as possible to minimise our environmental impact in our UK head office. We look at every aspect of our business, from quirky details like installing waterless urinals in our head office, to major decisions to offset all of our flight emissions.
